#HadiqaKiani #Janan #PakistaniClassics #Pashto In February 2010, Kiani released "Janan", for which she collaborated with Pashto singer Irfan Khan. The song has become Kiani's biggest hit till date and some say that it has even topped the popularity of "Boohey Barian". The song became the first Pakistani pop song to be mentioned by the Los Angeles Times, where the newspaper said that "Janan" was what the whole country was listening to. Kiani's rendering in the Pashto language was critically acclaimed. Some Pakhtoons even started to call her "Hadiqa Pathani," Kiani is credited with bringing back a trend in Pakistan of embracing Pashto culture, girls started to wear Pashto-style dresses imitating Kiani's looks on the red carpet and more mainstream singers began singing in the local language. The song's widespread popularity was credited to the fact that it broke barriers in Pakistani music, Kiani being a Punjabi singing a Pashto song and appealing to not only Pakistani Pashto audiences, but to audiences worldwide. Kiani's "Janan" has been covered by many international singers, most noticeably by the Chinese singer Hou Wei at the grand South Asia Expo in 2014. The Chinese cover was done as a tribute to Pakistani culture which elevated the Pashto community in Pakistan while, what many say, cementing the song as a national treasure. #HadiqaKiani #Dholan #PakistaniClassics The concept goes along with the singing and also tells an intriguing story to the audience. The word “ Dholan" means the Love of life. The Concept of the video took some effort, as the director gathered ideas with the help of Sarah Altaf and Khurram Anwar. The Story is quite complex, he tried to visualize it as simple as possible. The emphasis is on shoot photographic Videos to create e visual treat. There are four characters - a stranger on a camel, a woman with a [Musical Instrument], an Old Man in the hut, and a Little girl, who is only visible to the woman’s eyes. The mode is a Dessert, with vast landscapes and blue skies. Accordingly, we planned that the video should have a stylized look with scenic photography. The heart of the story is the Little girl who is representing the age of innocence of the woman, playing the Musical instrument. The girl symbolizes her freedom, her Music, and her spirit. As a stranger enter her life and her journey began towards the unknown. The two things that she remembers are her music and the young girl who is in fact her childhood. As she travels through the desserts and plains on a camel, with the man who is now her Future. She knows, that she will never be free and unbound & her childhood is about to vanish. The video end, as she was about to cross into her new life, she finally gives up her music. The little girl is also left behind, as the age of innocence is over. The little girl in the end finds the musical instrument in the dunes, searching for a new Soul for it. To convey concept into a story, we needed actors, who could light up the characters. The stranger is Mohib Mirza, not new to screen and theater, he is an emerging actor with visible talent. He was perfect for the character because of the body structure, facial features and the new messy hairstyle. The female character was well done by the expression of Maheen from Lahore, who played a character of a lonely girl in the desert. The Little girl was surprisingly the most energetic character in the story, as she is in the real life. I have never seen a child so young who can understand what you trying to do and do it for you in the first Shot...Amazing. Last but not least was the character of the Old man played by [Lahka]. He also helped us guide in the area. The location for the shoot was far away in the desert and mountains of Balochistan. The route is inaccessible and torturous. Our Vehicles got stuck for hours many times during the shoot. There were no shops for food and refreshments so we had to carry everything. The scorching sun was always there on our heads. This shoot was really a challenge. First, we completed the Singing performance. I, Hadiqa was symbolized as the soul of the desert. We were looking for a specific location, with a small Lake and Dessert in the background reflecting on the water surface. It took the director around one week to find this place only and some gruesome journeys over camel and donkey cart. My wardrobe and others were done by fashion Designer Fayez Agariah. And makeup by the Saima’s. The story sequence was shot in the desert, mountains, vast barren land, and plains with blue skies and a hut. The landscapes were beautifully captured by Cameraman Imran Ali. The editing and post-treatment was done at Candid Digital by Rizwan Mirza who is a freelance Editor and had cut all videos of Alf “the Director”. Production on the shoot was done by Sarah Altaf. #HadiqaKiani #TuAgarMilJata #OldClassics Tu Agar Mil Jata was the second single from Hadiqa Kiani’s Gold RIAA Certified 1996 album titled Raaz. The video was the first digitally animated music video in Pakistan history. The video led to Hammad Hassan, the animator and co-director of the music video to launch the award-winning animation company H20 Animations. The song remained on the top of the NTM charts in 1996 and 1997. The album spawned a string of radio-friendly hits and received positive reviews. Kiani was the first female singer to release a pop album after the former pop singer, Nazia Hassan. Kiani’s increasing popularity was further highlighted in January 1997, when Kiani became the first Asian singer to perform at the British National Lottery Live on BBC One (a program with an estimated viewership 16.6 million at that time). The platform hosted Madonna the following year and had historically seen the likes of Celine Dion and Elton John. Afterwards she worked on two more shows with Bally Sagoo for BBC and ITV before going on her first U.S. tour in 1997. Her U.S. tour covered 15 states and a few cities in Canada. The same year Kiani performed many other international events in the United Kingdom, Australia, and China. By the summer of 1997, Kiani was representing Pakistan as the only Pakistani singer to perform at "Celebration Hong Kong 97" at Happy Valley Race Course, alongside other International singers like Lisa Stansfield, Wet Wet Wet, Michael Learns to Rock, All 4 One and The Brand New Heavies,[ an event to celebrate Hong Kong's freedom from the United Kingdom. Kiani is the first mainstream Pakistani singer to ever perform in Hong Kong. By the end of the year she became the first Asian female singer ever to be signed by Pepsi Cola International.
